WHAT IS THE YIELD GAP?

The gap between Canadian canola yields and Australian canola yields has been widening for the past 10 years and currently stands at around 0.4 tonnes per hectare.

Much of the yield gap is due to the high adoption rate of new technology, including canola hybrids, in Canada (approximately 95% adoption). Hybrid adoption in Australia is much lower at around 35% with approximately 40% of the canola area planted to farmer-saved-seed.
